The strange saga of Elisa Lam, a 21-year-old tourist whose body was found in a water tank feeding the faucets of the Cecil Hotel near Skid Row in downtown L.A., has come to an end.

And in what will surely be a disappointment for conspiracy theorists, the death was ruled accidental:

That's what the L.A. County coroner's office told the Weekly today. Coroner's Lt. Fred Corral says:

The cause of death was accidental due to drowning and other significant conditions, mainly bipolar disorder.

He said she had a history of bipolar disorder (which might explain her strange behavior in a hotel elevator, which was caught on video).

Were there drugs in her system? “That's not listed here,” Corral said, “no.”

Asked if she might have tried to commit suicide, he also said no.

Lam, from Canada, was last seen Jan. 31 and was reported missing by her family. The LAPD released that video hoping it could lead to clues to her disappearance.

Then, in February, after guests complained about low water pressure at the hotel, her body was found in a tank on the roof.

That, of course, led to all kinds of theories about possible abductions or drug use. Not true.
