As if on cue, officials with the L.A. County Department of Public Health shut down the buzzed-about Dumb Starbucks in Los Feliz today.

It happened after an announcement made by Nathan Fielder of Comedy Central's Nathan For You show seemed to confirm that the whole thing was a backdrop for the program. (He joked that a second location was opening, this one in New York.)

A health inspector was sent to the pop-up store this afternoon after …
… the L.A. County Department of Public Health was told it did not have a health permit, an official at the department told the Weekly.

L.A. health law requires permits for shops that serve hot beverages and pastries, which Dumb Starbucks did over the weekend. An official also said that workers there would have been required to wear gloves under a new law because they were serving ready-to-eat foods.

A statement from the department to the Weekly reads:

The L.A. County Department of Public Health did indeed shut down Dumb Starbucks for operating without a public health permit.

Dumb baristas reportedly served beverages such as Dumb Grandes that were made of brewed coffee obtained from Vons. The store also had a Starbucks-like pastry case.

The pop-up shop at 1802 Hilhurst Ave. had hipsters mesmerized and standing in line for the kitsch product, which turned out to be a part of a show, Nathan For You, that regularly erects fake businesses.

The program is produced by Abso Lutely Productions of Tim and Eric Awesome Show fame.
