38-Year-Old Riverside Man Pronounced Dead after Multi-Vehicle Collision near Valley of Falls Drive

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA (March 20, 2024) Douglas Grant Jr. was killed Saturday afternoon in a head-on crash on northbound Highway 38. Police officers responded to the scene around 12:35 p.m., just south of Valley of the Fall Drive.

According to investigators, the driver of a 2022 Chevrolet heading north attempted to overtake a Toyota pickup-truck while exceeding 45 mph. The Chevrolet crossed the broken yellow lines, resulting in a head-on collision with a 2013 International 4400 fire truck crew carrier traveling at approximately 55 mph. The impact caused the fire truck to lose control and collide with the Toyota in the opposing lane.

Despite sustaining injuries, the fire truck crew rendered assistance to the other parties involved. 38-year-old Grant Jr. from Riverside passed away at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Medics also transported nine firefighters from the US Forest Service to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.
