The popular local storytelling show Don't Tell My Mother! has become so successful that it's moving to a bigger, more centrally located venue, where the performers break ground tonight with an all-new back-to-school show. Given the theme, it's only appropriate that actress-director Joanna Kerns, aka Maggie Seaver on Growing Pains, stops by to remember how she hustled for a better sandwich back in the third grade. Speaking of food, comic Jen Kober of Curb Your Enthusiasm returns to the stage with a hot-lunch scenario, and Jon Huck of This Is Not Happening talks about blowing his graduation money on Oktoberfest. The show's creative mastermind, Nikki Levy, time-travels to the sixth grade with an embarrassing note-passing story involving a schoolgirl crush. Levy likes to work with all performers on their stories beforehand, doing “creative therapy” to suss out both the emotional and amusing aspects of each narrative, so tales often are as sentimental as they are side-splitting.
