From the award-winning ShopFront theme design kit to eye-catching digital experiences for Parfait, Bero Brewing, TruFru, Venus Fashion, and Phil & Sebastian Coffee, the creative force behind these standout launches is product designer Senyan Luo. Known for seamlessly blending user experience, brand storytelling, and practical technical considerations, Senyan’s approach sets her apart as one of the most distinctive and thoughtful voices in digital design today.
Early Sparks of Creativity
Senyan’s passion for design revealed itself early. As a child, she transformed cardboard boxes and plastic containers into Frankenstein-style cars in a makeshift home workshop. At just 10 years old, frustrated by the bulky traditional Chinese-to-English dictionaries, she created her own dictionary, categorizing frequently used words and phrases by scenarios. If experimentation marked her childhood, boldness defined her teenage years. At 14, Senyan came to the United States for high school, staying with local host families to become the first international student in the school’s 135-year history. This pivotal experience shaped her independence, adaptability, and open-mindedness—qualities that later became integral to her design career.
Academic Foundations and Professional Growth
Her passion for design fully crystallized at UC San Diego when she joined Don Norman’s renowned Design Lab during her junior year. There, she collaborated with PhD student Vineet Pandey, designing the online participant recruitment flow for his thesis project, a citizen-science platform called Gut Instinct. Driven by curiosity, Senyan earned a Provost’s Scholarship to Parsons School of Design in New York City, completing her MFA in Design and Technology. These transformative years deepened her craft, positioning her as a thoughtful and influential designer.
Leading Projects at Art of the Cart
Today, Senyan is the lead product designer at Vizzacco Design, known to many as Art of the Cart, a boutique studio on the East Coast specializing in digital experience design. After graduating from Parsons, she chose not to pursue the typical Big Tech path after graduation, opting instead to work closely with Joshua and Carolyn Vizzacco, the husband-and-wife creative duo behind the studio. Senyan quickly made her mark through impressive problem-solving skills and sharp design instincts, becoming Art of the Cart’s first full-time hire.
Over the past two and a half years, she’s led digital product design on over twenty client projects. Most notably, her prototype work for Parfait—an innovative AI-driven wig shopping experience—helped the startup secure a significant investment round in 2024, with major design updates to wig customization and personalization experiences scheduled for rollout throughout 2025.

Innovating with ShopFront
Perhaps Senyan’s most groundbreaking contribution, however, has been to Art of the Cart’s internal startup project: ShopFront, a first-of-its-kind design system crafted specifically for eCommerce. Born from shared insights between Joshua and Senyan about repeated design patterns and common industry pain points, the ShopFront system was ambitious in its scope. Over two years, Senyan meticulously crafted its sophisticated architecture of interconnected components, modules, and templates—complemented by a thoughtfully structured global theming system covering color, typography, and spacing variables.
Today, ShopFront has evolved from an internal asset into an award-winning product, earning accolades such as the Muse Design Award. It’s become integral to Art of the Cart’s workflow and is now commercially available, saving other design agencies approximately 400 design hours annually—hours previously spent reinventing basic design elements that can now be devoted to strategic thinking and creative innovation, thus boosting both project quality and profitability.

Philosophy in Practice
Senyan’s design philosophy is captured succinctly: “Design the right thing, and design the thing right.” In practice, this translates to her keen ability to get unstuck and her unwavering commitment to simplicity. Early in her career at Don Norman’s Design Lab, she mastered “guerrilla UX research”—a practical method for quickly testing design ideas with real people. Today, this budget-friendly technique is fundamental to every project she leads. Instead of relying solely on assumptions or intuition, Senyan prioritizes real-world validation through informal, rapid testing sessions. Observations like users repeatedly tapping buttons or subtly furrowing their brows provide crucial insights into design refinements.
Alongside user validation, simplicity defines Senyan’s work. Simplicity doesn’t necessarily mean minimalism; a digital experience can remain true to its brand while still feeling straightforward and intuitive. Behind every elegant interface lies extensive strategic thinking and research. Senyan invests significant time upfront, transforming complexity into clarity well before creating wireframes or visuals. For her, simplicity is never merely aesthetic—it results from rigorous UX groundwork, ensuring each design decision feels intentional and naturally intuitive.
Looking Ahead
Looking forward, Senyan remains committed to authenticity in her practice. Being proudly female, feminist, Asian, and LGBT allows her to amplify voices often underrepresented in digital design spaces. She believes that the more diverse the design community becomes, the more effectively it will create products that genuinely resonate with more people.
Ultimately, Senyan’s passion for design reflects her broader outlook on life itself: “Life is made up of one problem after another,” she says. “To love life is to love problem-solving—and that’s exactly what design is. I love life, and therefore, I design.”
