On April 26, Denis Leary became @denisleary on Twitter, feeding fans with commentary like “Twitter is about to announce a new pay model. For 25 bucks a month you never hear from Ashton Kutcher again.” The move came a few weeks before the star of Rescue Me launches the eleven-city “Rescue Me Comedy Tour 2” with fellow cast members Lenny Clarke and Adam Ferrara.

“I'm such a moron when it comes to this stuff,” said Leary during a recent press call. “My wife's been tweeting for a while. But I really started to get pissed off when I saw Colbert and a couple other funny guys doing it. Then I saw Conan [O'Brien] was doing it, and I was just like, 'Well, if Conan can do it, I mean I can figure out how to do it.' So that's basically how I got started.”

With live dates on the horizon, this is a smart move for Leary. We rely on Twitter heavily to stay in the loop on tours and events, both from the artists' and fans' perspectives. But, will Leary be keeping track of the 140 character buzz on his show?

“Oh, yeah, you bet your ass,” he says. “I'm not going to Twitter and not pay attention to what they say. Hopefully, they'll like it. If they don't, I'm going to turn into Courtney Love and start attacking them personally on my Twitter page. How's that for interactive?”

Leary says that Twitter will help him keep track of feedback as the group hops from city to city.

“Last time we did it, it was very much like a rock tour would be,” he explains. “We play a city and then sometimes we leave that night to go to the next city. So, you do this great show in front of 7,000 people and you leave. Even if the show went great, you're kind of like, 'Wow, we never even really got to see the papers the next day' or whatever, the response.” Now he'll know before intermission.
