You're gonna be hearing about a crapload of Craft fairs in the next few weeks leading up to Christmas, but there's one this weekend that you really don't want to miss, and we're not just saying that because *full disclosure* we'll be signing our critically-acclaimed (by alkies) bar bible, Los Angeles' Best Dive Bars (12.95), there this Friday night.
But if you are the type who likes a good dive bar, you probably also like a cold PBR, dig lowbrow art, ironic -or not- use of religious iconography for home decor, Willie Nelson (“Free Willie!”) and DIY spirited gift giving, so you will definitely want to head over to Ranch-N-Roll where cool items celebrating all of the above and more will be available, in some cases for less than the price of a Snuggie or Chia Pet.
“The Beer Can Hat Lady” will be in the house offering alluring aluminum masterpieces like the Pabst Cowboy hat above. And really, who wouldn't want a PBR Cowboy hat? Your brewskie-loving uncle, your next door neighbor, your boss… Anyone who wears this out to a club or bar is guaranteed to out-hip everyone else. Guaranteed. Other brands will include Coors, Lucky, Miller, Tecate and for the ladies, Bud Light. Beer can ornaments will also be avaible for the ultimate hipster Xmas tree.
Also available during the three day/evening event: Bohemian Dirt's bejeweled belt buckles, YeeHaw Cherry's felt goodies, Homewrecker's cigar box purses, La macon leather handbags, Justin Bailey's salvage-repo hand painted signs, Rick Klu's bar coasters (great gift combo with our book!) and duct tape bags, Sammy Velvet's Baby Beast beds, Baby Bird handmade vegan bath soap, Clint Luke Leathers, and last but not least Exene Cervenka's “Magic Treasure Boxes.”
Ranch-N-Roll's owner Libby Knudson, will also have all of her colorful furniture creations on display, vintage fabric totes, and more for sale, but we think the ultimate gift to snatch up while you're there has to be a membership to Club Hotpad.
Forget about cheesecake or beer of the month clubs, Club HP is a potholder of the month club, in which recipients get a different 7 x 7 potholder every month, each designed by music and art luminaries such X's Cervenka, The Blasters' Dave Alvin, Dogtown/Zephyr board legend Jeff Ho, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and more. $100 + tax, plus $20 for shipping and handling.
Check out photos from Ho's closing exhibit party at R-n-R in this week's Nightranger slideshow tomorrow.
Craftmas is Friday, Dec. 3 (6-10 pm), Saturday, Dec. 4 (11 a.m.-7 p.m.) and Sunday, Dec. 5 (11 a.m.- 5 p.m.) At Ranch-N-Roll, 5106 Fountain Ave., Hollywood. 323- 913- BUCK.
