Here's another costly tale of incivility in the civil services, courtesy of the Daily News.

Richard Joaquin, of Corona, was an LAPD motorcycle officer who had a simple dream of leaving work early. His supervisor reprimanded him. He filed a complaint against the supervisor. The conflict escalated. Joaquin was fired.

Last week, a jury looked at the case and awarded Joaquin $2 million.

The Daily News' Rick Orlov notes that's more than the $1.5 million that firefighter Tennie Pierce got for his racial discrimination claim.

The twist in this case is that City Attorney Carmen Trutanich says that his attorneys are bound to lose more and more of these verdicts, due to cutbacks in his office.

“If we had the budget we had two or three years ago, this wouldn't be happening,” he told Orlov.
