When you're at an illicit party in the middle of the night, you gotta think the cops are coming sooner or later.

That notion didn't seen to occur to a party-goer who allegedly whipped out his gun just as deputies arrived to festivities in the 500 block of South Long Beach Boulevard in Compton about 2:30 a.m. yesterday.

The result was even more predictable:

The alleged gunman was shot by a deputy. This is all according to an L.A. County Sheriff's Department statement which, as usual, was thin on details.

The department says the alleged party guy with the weapon was taken to a hospital in a condition that was still “unknown” nearly a day later. (Really?)

A gun was recovered, sheriff's officials said.

The deputies apparently did good, though, because they came upon a previous shooting at the shindig, and the victim, another party-goer, was subsequently pronounced dead at a hospital, according to the department.

It's not clear if the man shot by the deputy was the alleged shooter.

The deputy was unhurt.

Cops were called to the location because of complaints of a “loud party.”
