Landscaping Accident near Yosemite Avenue Left Homeless Modesto Woman Dead

MODESTO, CA (July 17, 2023) – Saturday afternoon, Christine Chavez died after being run over by a lawnmower at Beard Brook Park. The incident occurred just south of Yosemite Avenue along Dry Creek. According to the investigators, employees of Grover Landscape Services were tending to the landscaping in Beard Brook Park. One of the employees was driving a John Deere tractor with a pull-behind mower when he noticed the body of a woman in an area that he had passed through with a lawn mower. Officials later reported that the woman was unhoused and sleeping in the park. Emergency crews were dispatched to the area shortly after. The first responders declared 27-year-old Christine Chavez, of Modesto, dead at the scene. A spokesperson from the mowing company claimed that the contractor failed to see the woman since she was in a “tall, weeded area”. At this time, Chavez’s family is demanding a thorough investigation of the incident from the police.
