R&B singer Chris Brown, 19, had his arraignment downtown today and, despite earlier talk of his lawyer, Mark Geragos, massaging a plea deal with the D.A.'s office, Brown ended up pleaded not guilty to two felony charges: assault and making a criminal threat. Brown allegedly beat his girlfriend, the singer Rihanna, during an argument the two had following a pre-Grammy Awards party in February. Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg set April 29 for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to have Brown stand trial.

Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, did not herself press charges, but today her lawyer said she would testify if called upon.
