Since 2008 Cake Monkey has been an underground bakery of sorts, running their business from a private kitchen, selling their cakewiches and Yo-hos at select venues including Umami Burger, Silverlake Wine, and The Sweets Truck. But the sought after company has surfaced with a permanent Pop-Up store (at least on the weekends), debuting today with a bake sale. Along with their signature cakewiches ($3.50), pop pies ($3.50), and banana/milk chocolate/toffee crunch cake ($7), the bakery is selling ice cream sandwiches with malted milk chocolate ice cream between flourless chocolate pecan cookies and oatmeal cookies with spiced coffee ice cream, for $4.

While getting your sugar fix, you can check out local artists, photographers, and jewelry designers showcasing their work. Now, instead of ordering nine mini-cakes for yourself–minimum amount that can be purchased directly through Cake Monkey–you can find a cheaper and more waist-friendly alternative at their new Silver Lake location.

Cake Monkey: 2912 Rowena Avenue, Silver Lake; (877) 640-2253. Fri., noon-6 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
