A century before its bullet-burnished reputation in the current drug wars, Northern Mexico's expansive plains resembled the cowboy culture of our own Southwest. The L.A.-based Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet recalls that earlier era as it pays tribute to the folk dances of this northern region of Mexico in a program dubbed Ruta del Norte: Northern Route. The evening includes the debut of a collection of folk dances from Tamaulipas, a new work with a country & western flavor, and help from Hermanos Herrera playing traditional Mexican music.
