Revamp would deserve a Best of L.A. slot if it were just the go-to spot where fashionistas with a thing for vintage flock to have new garments custom-created based on the styles of the past. But Revamp also hosts intensive period-specific hair and makeup courses in its downtown loft space. Held once every two months, the three-hour courses are $50 each, and you must bring your own supplies (the hair classes require an extensive list of tools, including a “rat-tail comb” and “Mason Pearson brush or soft paddle, boar bristle brush”). Revamp’s website also offers tutorials in antiquated coiffure, with diagrams and instructions for creating hairstyles like the “Omelette Fold” and “Wet May Murray” in the privacy of your own home. 834 S.
