UCLA isn’t the only educational institution in Westwood. Since 2008, the high-end Aveda beauty product line also has its own campus, in the form of a discount salon and stylists’ academy, catering to Bruins and bargain-seekers alike. From the lobby, the Aveda Institute might look like just another full-service salon, but inside is a sprawling hands-on classroom, and the folks trimming hair and waxing brows are actually enrolled in a 56-week program. At the institute, a team of 10 full-time and three part-time instructors educate more than 100 students on everything from bridal up-dos to chakra-balancing pedicures. Each service is delivered at a fraction of what it would cost at a luxury salon, with haircuts starting at $19. But it’s not just about looking good; true to the company’s eco-minded principles, all tips are donated to a different charity each month — a practice bound to leave your body, wallet and conscience feeling pretty. 10935 Weyburn Ave., Wstwd.
