Converse has just announced its intention to “activate its commitment to being a catalyst for creativity” by embarking on a new project that wrangles an odd array of talent.

Rapper Kid Cudi, Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij and L.A.'s own beachy-keen up-and-comer Best Coast will each contribute to something called “Three Artists. One Song.”

It's pretty much self-explanatory — and due out as a free download in July — but there's also a “short film” element as well, which is a fancy way of describing “three two-minute promo clips wherein the artist is interviewed and shown wearing Chucks.”

At least that's how the Best Coast video plays out, though we're not dissing. We like Chucks, and we like Bethany Cosentino. Especially when they come together to talk about how great our city is.

“Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino is one of today's most hotly-tipped musicians,” said Geoff Cottrill, Chief Marketing Officer of Converse. “She has jumped onto everyone's radar within the past six months due to her refreshingly honest and clean musical style and having her be involved with the new collaboration was a no-brainer. She brings a west-coast flair and ease to the single and we couldn't be more excited to have her participate in the songs creation.”

Seems Dr. Martens isn't the only cobbler in town trying to get a piece of that West Coast magic. And Dâm-Funk isn't the only local shilling for shoes.
