Every men's magazine has an opinion about which women its readers want to bang. Such is the nature of men's magazines; their raison d'etre, their bread and butter, their very lifeblood.

Often, these lists consist of young, nubile things with nary a perceptible functioning brain cell. We womenfolk have come to begrudgingly accept this as a part of life, and generally ignore it.

But every now and then, a men's magazine (or website, as the case may be) swoops in and releases a list that defies the stereotype of “hot women” lists; its members are celebrated not just for their looks but for their personalities and other good qualities. Such is the case, then, with AskMen.com's “Top 99 Most Desirable Women,” which asked readers to rank their favorite ladies not just on sex appeal but, according to a press release, on “character, intelligence, talent, sense of humor, professional success, achievements in 2012 and potential for 2013.”

The list that came out is one that women can actually respect.

The first five ladies are of the predictable variety: Jennifer Lawrence at #1, followed by Mila Kunis, Kate Upton, Rihanna and Emma Stone. But moving further down, Sarah Silverman comes in at #23, Michelle Obama ranks at #33, and Marissa Meyer — the CEO of Yahoo — is #59.

I don't want to say that this list has single-handedly redeemed the “hot women” list, because there's always Maxim out there to ruin it for everyone, but it certainly has proven that men have more than one body part with which they can think.

Well played, AskMen.com. Well played.
