When it rains it pours for American Apparel, even in summer. First speculation about possible bankruptcy, shareholder lawsuits and a possible boot from the New York Stock exchange harsh the mellow for the hipster clothing maker. Now this:

A worker at the company's downtown headquarters died Tuesday morning, according to authorities. Paramedics were called to the factory at 747 Warehouse St. at 11:34 a.m. Tuesday and declared an employee dead at the scene, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey told LA Weekly.

Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Division were called to the scene in the early afternoon, but no foul play was suspected. “He was ill at work and passed away,” Det. Leonardo McKenzie says. ” He had some previous med conditions.”

The man was in his 40s and had a history of high blood pressure, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter. The man's identity was being withheld until his family could be notified of his demise. The death was reported about noon, Winter said, and coroner's investigators were called to the factory at 2:16 p.m. He had been “discovered unresponsive” by a co-worker, Winter said.
