A sixtysomething nightclub owner was fatally shot in his Rolls-Royce outside a home in tony Baldwin Hills early today, police said.

Los Angeles police tell the Weekly the 2:30 a.m. attack happened near Hillcrest and Don Milagro drives.

The vehicle was reported to be worth $300,000.

Exactly what club (or clubs) the man owned wasn't yet clear. An officer told us that an LAPD Southwest Division captain was slated to give a press conference later today.

Detectives continued to investigate at the scene late this morning.

City News Service reported that a dark-colored sedan was spotted driving away following the shooting.

The neighborhood is sometimes referred to as “the black Beverly Hills.” L.A. City Councilman Bernard Parks, a former LAPD chief, has a residence on Don Milagro Drive.

Update: The victim was ID'd in broadcast reports as Alonzo Ester, 67. He reportedly owned Dynasty Restaurant and Lounge in Inglewood.

Police said the man was sitting in his car when someone walked up and fired two shots.

His brother told ABC7 that the victim had arrived home from the club when he was attacked.

But it wasn't clear if robbery was involved.
