This Saturday, Sept. 8, the Korean American Coalition (KAC) will be hosting a Taste of Koreatown, a multicultural food festival that promises to showcase “the best restaurants in Koreatown.”

The event is replacing last year's Korean BBQ Cook-Off in favor of an event featuring a broader swath of K-town restaurants. Alongside Korean joints like jjigae-giant BCD Tofu House, Ham Ji Park, and Park's BBQ, will be old-school favorites like gyro guru Papa Cristo's and El Cholo, which plans to debut it's secret recipe for kimchi guacamole.

Recent additions such as Palsaik Samgyupsal, home to eight flavors of pork belly, and Seoul Sausage Company, a food festival favorite set to debut a brick-and-mortar location on Sawtelle Blvd. in the coming weeks, will be serving up Korean grilled meats as well.

Saturday's festival will also include a beer garden with Firestone Brewery beers, soju cocktails, Kooksoondang makgeolli (unfiltered rice wine) and bokbunja (Korean raspberry wine). If all that soju makes you extra-hungry, you could sign up for BCD's Spicy Tofu Eating Challenge or the Orion Choco Pie Eating Contest, or perhaps sample some leftovers from the construction of L.A.'s biggest bowl of bibimbap.

The event lasts from noon to 5 p.m and is located on Hobart Blvd. between Wilshire and 7th. Admission is $2, which includes a raffle ticket for prizes. Food vendors are cash only and alcoholic beverage tickets can be purchased at the event.
