While stand-up comedy relies on damaged lives and unique faces, Anthony Jeselnik is part of that new breed of pretty comics who try really, really hard to make you laugh even while they take comedy in a new direction — namely, away from how attractive they are. “Attractive people can be funny, too, right? Like Chrissy Snow on Three’s Company. Jeselnik presents a twisted view of life as it is lived today with a live taping of his Comedy Central smash The Jeselnik Offensive. This week’s guests are Dave Attell and Joan Rivers — who aren’t exactly strangers to pushing envelopes and strangling societal convention themselves — and it’ll be difficult to top Jeselnik’s recent, penetrating examination of statutory necrophilia during his “Sacred Cow” segment. But if anyone can make you think of things like bestiality or necrophilia or mensilingus and smile as the fouled electrons sear your hippocampus forever, it’s Anthony Jeselnik. Hollywood Center Studios, 1040 N. Las Palmas Ave., Hlywd.; Thurs., Aug. 1, 6 p.m.; free with RSVP: 1iota.com/show/270/The-Jeselnik-Offensive.
