When watching a film, audiences often leave talking about a scene or a standout line. But chances are, it was the music that made it stick. Even before an actor speaks or a twist unfolds, the score is already at work. It sets the tone, amplifies anticipation, or foreshadows character motives. Studies show that audiences often sense the emotion of a scene through background music. Viewers feel a scene through the audio before they even have a conceptual grasp on what’s happening in the story.
Today, as more people view films in different formats, such as mobile streaming or VR, the purpose of music has never been more demanding. To keep up with new technologies, composers have had to reimagine their capabilities and how they conduct their work. As opposed to mainly composing music for the orchestra, today’s composers blend classical motifs with high-tech production.
One notable composer pushing boundaries with bleeding-edge technologies is Eduardo Resende. He is a Brazilian-born and LA-based composer who creates audio compositions for Hollywood blockbusters, Latin American films, and VR content.
With his signature approach of mixing orchestral practices with electronic, ambient, and culturally rooted instrumentation, Eduardo is scoring some of the industry’s most soul-stirring stories.
Who is Eduardo Resende—and Why He’s a Rising Force
Eduardo’s roots in music began in childhood in Rio de Janeiro, when he picked up a classical guitar at the age of eight. That early start branched into rock, orchestral, and cinematic composition. But it was his passion for cinematic composition that significantly deepened after hearing The Dark Knight’s soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. He realized how audio backdrops could elevate a scene in ways dialogue or even cinematography could not.
Inspired to master the art form, he traveled to the United States to attend Berklee College of Music. There, he specialized in media composition, scoring, and arranging. In his final years of study, he got an internship at a production music company, marking the start of his composition career.
Since then, his credits have grown into an eclectic portfolio that includes The Beekeeper, a project that earned a BMI Film, TV, and Visual Media Award. He’s also worked on Sony’s Kraven the Hunter and Borderlands, and Netflix’s Oklahoma City Bombing: American Terror, which reached the streaming service’s Top 10 list in the U.S.
Through those works, Eduardo has collaborated with award-winning composers like Benjamin Wallfisch, Trevor Morris, Pedro Bromfman, and Steve Jablonsky. And his scores have also been featured on national TV networks like CBS, HGTV, OWN, Discovery+, and more.

Sound Reimagined: Eduardo’s Hybrid Scoring Method
Many composers specialize in either orchestral or modern sound design. But Eduardo stands out for his ability to do both with hybrid scoring. His work converges classic orchestration with modern synthesis, audio layers, and ethnic instrumentation. This synthesis allows for the production of musical arrangements that are versatile, advanced, and emotionally precise.
“I aim to create scores that not only align the visuals but amplify emotional narrative,” Eduardo explains.
His technical skills span spatial audio, Dolby Atmos, and VR/AR scoring. With these capabilities, he develops sensory-rich sound experiences that pull in audiences at cinemas and on headphones.
For directors and producers, that ability is gold. And it’s why they often turn to Eduardo to assemble a score that is soulful, technically sound, and unique enough to stand out.

Tales in Tone: From Blockbusters to Cultural Legacy
On Kraven the Hunter, Eduardo contributed to the music team behind the original score. Working with Oscar-nominated director J.C. Chandor, Eduardo had to be creative and precise when working with the best of the best in the industry.
“This was a landmark moment in my career,” Eduardo noted. “It demanded elite-level creativity, accuracy, and versatility in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.”
Mauricio de Sousa – O Filme, a Disney-distributed biopic of Brazil’s most acclaimed comic book artist, was particularly important for Eduardo on a personal level. As the lead composer, not only did Eduardo have to perform his duties at a high level, but he also had to sonically translate a national treasure for his home country. For Eduardo, who grew up on these comic book stories, he felt a deep connection and responsibility to the work.
“This project felt like giving back to the culture that shaped me,” he reflects. “Being entrusted with such responsibility on a globally distributed film was both humbling and career-defining.”

Leading Through Innovation, Mentorship, and Vision
Beyond his work, Eduardo is invested in leading the future of composition for visual media. He is looking into how AI-assisted tools and spatial audio can establish new production workflows. He is also committed to mentoring emerging composers, often connecting with rising talent who reach out after hearing his works.
“I believe true leadership in the arts comes through collaboration, generosity, and mentorship,” he explains.
By sharing his experiences, Eduardo helps others adapt to the industry’s technical and creative challenges. As a leader in a time of rapid industry change, Eduardo’s goals are both personally and conceptually bold.
“The easy answer would be to win an Oscar, but more than that, my long-term goal is to constantly evolve as a composer and storyteller.”
He sees each project as a chance to build expertise and challenge creative norms. This could mean applying new digital audio tools or experimenting with uncommon instrumentation. But no matter the tools, it always starts the same way, with deep listening.
“Every story has a rhythm, whether it’s the pace of the actor’s dialogue, the speed of the editor’s cut, or the rate at which the camera pulls away,” he points out. “My job is to find that pulse and turn it into music.”
A score’s power comes from alignment. And only by recognizing a scene’s natural rhythm can a composer produce a piece that feels inseparable from the story.
