With a mission rooted in love and peace for a better future, FOWYD focuses on uplifting marginalized women and youth, especially in health, education, and vocational training. Under the leadership of President Mr. Blaise Abang, the organization has expanded its reach across Africa and aims to create a global impact.
FOWYD began its journey in Cameroon, where it sought to address the pressing issues faced by women and youth, particularly those marginalized by crisis and conflict. The organization’s mission is to promote community health, education, agriculture, and support for the less privileged. Their approach emphasizes empowering women, nurturing youth potential, and fostering inclusive growth. “We envision a world where every woman and young individual is given the opportunity to thrive and contribute positively to society,” says President Abang.
FOWYD’s efforts in community development focus on health and education. The organization has educated communities on health issues, including drug and firearm awareness, and has supported schools by providing resources such as school materials for orphans. Their vocational training and capacity-building programs serve as an alternative for those who have left the traditional education system, offering skills training in areas like hairdressing and mechanics. These programs aim to provide individuals with the tools they need to build sustainable careers.
In 2024, FOWYD expanded its operations to Zambia, reflecting its ambition to touch the entire African continent. The Zambia branch has been active in addressing youth unemployment by establishing partnerships with international organizations and running donation campaigns. A particular focus has been on agriculture, where the organization educates and involves communities in sustainable farming practices. Health campaigns, such as those promoting HIV prevention, are also a key component of their work in Zambia.
While FOWYD’s efforts focus on Africa, the organization also explores global opportunities. President Abang notes the potential for FOWYD’s model to be applied globally, especially in providing mental health support. The organization recognizes that the challenges faced by women and youth are universal, and their initiatives could have a broad impact beyond Africa.
Mr. Njuh L. Ndang, Secretary General of the organization, highlights the marginalization of women and youth as a critical issue in the country. The organization has established partnerships with hospitals, orphanages, and vocational training centers to provide essential resources. These partnerships have allowed the organization to provide essential resources, including school materials for orphaned children, and to reopen schools that had previously been closed. The back-to-school programs are another example of their efforts to support the community. “We are trying to help them find their way back to a career, a purpose, and a future,” says the SG.
