Heavy metal honky-tonk band WhiskeyDick bless NAMM with a gig at the Doll Hut this week, so we chatted…
L.A. WEEKLY: When did the band form, where, and what was the mission?
FRITZ: WhiskeyDick was formed in 2005 in Fort Worth, Texas after becoming close friends during both of our metal band careers performing shows together on a regular basis. Starting out, the only plan was to simply write and play music together, music that we love as we’ve always had the same ideas and views that great songs come from life experiences, and for us it is the feeling and a sense of release. At the time, we never imagined that 15 years later we would still be doing exactly what we love and started out to do — play music from the heart and soul.
Describe the sound…
Our sound is derived from something we can’t really explain as we always just write our music based off what we feel. However, it definitely comes from our influences and love for metal, classic rock and traditional country. It’s pretty much a concoction from hell with a mix of all types music that has collided into what we call “heavy metal honky-tonk”.
