79-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after SUV vs Sedan Collision near Pine View Way

PETALUMA, CA (February 6, 2024) – A 79-year-old woman died early Thursday afternoon in a head-on crash on eastbound Highway 116.

At approximately 12:37 p.m., the collision took place on the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Pine View Way and Frates Road. According to reports, a head-on collision occurred between a sedan and a small SUV traveling in the westbound lanes.

Emergency responders pronounced the female SUV driver dead at the scene, identified only as a 79-year-old woman by Petulma Officials. Paramedics transported the 29-year-old male sedan driver to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The collision resulted in significant damage to both the SUV and the sedan.

Law enforcement authorities do not suspect the involvement of drugs or alcohol in the collision. The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased victim once it becomes available.
