Ah, the irreverence and pomposity of the rich and taste-challenged knows no bounds, even in these tough economic times. Take the case of this rare, 1994 Cizeta V16 douche-mobile which U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents seized on Monday not only because it had allegedly been imported illegally, but because documents attached to the car's import stated it was worth $125,000 when it would have cost much more to replace.

ICE officials say the Cizeta is a “one-of-a-kind” version of the Italian sports car brought to the United States by the maker himself, South Orange County resident Claudio Zampolli. It was created in conjunction with the king of Euro-disco, Mr. Giorgio “I Feel Love” Moroder. Officials say the thing is worth $700,000 today.

They caught up with the car at a showroom in San Juan Capistrano. Authorities say Zampoli brought the Italian job to the U.S. under federal permission that allowed it to come stateside for one year for maintenance and repair. Apparently the car overstayed its Visa like a Japanese college student.

“Make no mistake, the illegal importation of gray market vehicles like this is not just a technical violation,” stated Miguel Unzueta, special agent in charge for the ICE Office of Investigations in Los Angeles. “Cars that don't meet U.S. standards are outlawed for a reason. These vehicles can pose a real threat to public health and safety.”

The Cizeta is really more of a threat to public aesthetics. It looks like a Lamborghini Countach — no best of show winner itself — that hasn't been fully cooked yet. And you can just hear that trancey, arpeggio synth line burbling under the rear engine cover.
