35-Year-Old Man Hospitalized after Pedestrian Collision near 54th Street

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 14, 2024) – One man was hospitalized Sunday evening, after a pedestrian crash on 54th Street and University Avenue.

The incident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Investigators report that the driver of a Toyota sedan was passing through a green light on 54th Street when the vehicle struck a male pedestrian walking south.

Medical personnel transported the 35-year-old pedestrian to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities have not yet released his identity. The 69-year-old driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The San Diego Police Department Traffic Division is currently leading the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that intoxication was not a factor in the incident. San Diego officials are urging anyone who witnessed the University Avenue pedestrian crash to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
