66-Year-Old Man Killed in Single-Car Accident near Via Verde Drive

SAN DISMAS, CA (May 16, 2024) – Early Saturday morning, Richard Priem was killed in a single-car crash on 57 Freeway. The incident occurred on the northbound lanes of the freeway, around 4:30 a.m., just north of Via Verde Drive. Officers say the driver of a 2015 Toyota Highlander swerved off the road, drove up a hill, and subsequently overturned. First responders pronounced the Toyota’s driver dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner later identified him as 66-year-old Richard Priem. Priem was employed as a grip on the Fox show “9-1-1” and was a member of the IATSE Local 80 crew union. On Sunday, investigators indicated that alcohol was a suspected factor in the crash. Witnesses to the single-vehicle accident are urged to contact the CHP Baldwin Park station at 626-338-1164.
