Veronicavon Take the Cherry: Chris Hackman of L.A. lo-fi band veronicavon told us about the band’s Cherry Glazerr experience.

Chris Hackman: The first time we ever met was actually at a show in downtown L.A.!  So that has to qualify as one of the most epic gigs we’ve ever seen, since it led to the literal birth of veronicavon. It was 2019, and Xuan had only been living in L.A. for one month; she was new, she was excited, and she was ready to rock.  We’d been introduced through mutual friends on instagram, so we figured what the hell, we like a lot of the same bands… let’s go see a show!Cherry Glazerr happened to be headlining a summer concert series at that weird little plaza on top of FIGat7th, so we both took the subway downtown – it was an ‘interesting’ vibe to say the least (as you might expect at a free concert in DTLA).  Tons of people were there that you wouldn’t necessarily expect at a show, but the plaza kept filling up, and by the time Cherry Glazerr came on, it was actually kind of rowdy – people were ready to throw down.  This band Liily was the opener (they’re like a combination of Tame Impala and Rage Against the Machine?). We were primed.Anyways, Glazerr CRUSHED IT, people went nuts, and it was an amazing night.  And after the show, we realized we were already basically at Target…  so obviously we bought some socks. And the rest is history 🙂As far as our ACTUAL favorite shows ever… For Xuan, hands-down it was Bloc Party at Austin City Limits in 2007, playing songs from ‘Silent Alarm’.  She cried. And for Chris, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard at the Hollywood Palladium has to take the cake… I don’t know if a 3000-person mosh pit is normal for Giz? But that’s what happened.  10/10, no notes.

Veronicavon Take the Cherry: veronicavon’s “Heartbreak Feels Good in a Place Like This” single is out now.
