Rams fans were treated to a halftime show by Sublime at the Cardinals vs. Rams game at SoFi Stadium last Saturday, Dec. 28. The Long Beach legends recently reformed with Jakob Nowell — son of the late lead singer Bradley Nowell — as the lead, whose sultry vocals are a fresh revival of his Dad’s SoCal sound.

“I was a Rams fan growing up all throughout my childhood until they moved to St. Louis — and then I thought they were traitors, so I traded them for another team. But now that they’re back, I had to honor that, and I’m once again a Rams fan,” drummer Bud Gaugh told us. “Puka Nacua is one of my favorite players on the team. And I’m glad that Matt Stafford moved out of cold ass Detroit because he serves better over here wearing the blue and gold.”

“I mean, the team means a lot to LA. How’s this fucking stadium? It’s nuts. It’s crazy. This is just massive, massive, cool,” Jakob Nowell said. “I think it’s going to be an awesome day, and we’re really stoked to be up there and play some songs for the fans.”

“Oh, the Rams are going to the playoffs for sure,” Gaugh added, “That’s a given. Division champs right now, I’m claiming it.”

Gaugh’s prediction was dead-on — the Rams shut down the Cardinals 13-9 in a nail biter, and have made an epic comeback this season, starting with a one and four record, then winning nine of their last 11 games, including the last five, to advance into the postseason with the division title. Their last game of the regular season is this Sunday, Jan. 5, against the Seahawks — tickets are available here.

“Man, we love you guys. We love it here in our hometown. This is, I think, some of the best people on planet Earth. And every time we play locally, it’s a really good time. So if you haven’t been out to a show recently, come on out. We’ve got a bunch coming up next year in 2025, both locally and not locally. And thanks for all the support over all these decades. It’s crazy, man. We’re stoked to be here,” Nowell said.

Sublime will keep fans happy in 2025, playing around the country and abroad, including stops in Costa Rica and Brazil. Check out their tour schedule here.

“And if it hurts, go to the doctor and get rid of it,” bassist Eric Wilson made sure to mention before we wrapped. He’s always got our backs.

Bud Gaugh had a question for the LA Weekly audience — “How many of you have been fans since ‘The Superbowl Shuffle’? Do you remember what the song was that the Rams did?”

For those of you who don’t remember, let’s take a walk down memory lane to 1985, where in response to the Bears’ “The Super Bowl Shuffle” the Rams released the hip-hop hit “Let’s Ram It!
