Pilot Hospitalized after Plane Suffers Engine Failure on Clarke Drive

EL CAJON, CA (May 8, 2024) – A pilot was hospitalized Sunday night, after a plane crashed on Lily Avenue and Clarke Drive. Police officers arrived to the scene around 6:30 p.m., on April 28th. The single-pilot-operated Bellanca Super Viking experienced an engine failure, resulting in a sudden decrease in oil pressure and an increase in oil temperature. Consequently, the aircraft descended rapidly and collided with a residential area. Heartland Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief John Nevin reported that the pilot was en route to Gillespie Field. Emergency responders swiftly transported the pilot to the nearest hospital, where they received treatment for serious but stable injuries. Furthermore, the crash resulted in damage to power lines, prompting response teams to contain and manage the affected lines. The El Cajon Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration are now conducting investigations to determine further information.
