67-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Thrift Store Crash near Madrid Avenue

LAS CRUCES, NM (May 8, 2024)Pamela Kaye Nelson died Tuesday morning in a car accident at the 2340 block of North Main Street.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m., on April 30th.

According to reports, a 69-year-old woman, driving a Ford Explorer, accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brakes while the vehicle was parked. This resulted in the car crashing into a glass and aluminum facade near the self-checkout area of a thrift store, injuring fifteen people.

Emergency crews noted that two of the injured individuals were employees of Savers, while the remaining ten were customers of the store.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported ten of the fifteen injured victims to a nearby hospital for further medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, 67-year-old Nelson was pronounced dead.

The driver herself sustained no injuries, though she later sought medical evaluation.

As of now, there have been no updates regarding the conditions of the other victims, and an active investigation into the incident is ongoing.
