If we do not know where we are going, then any road will do. Those who are both self-aware and alert to the precarious nature of society’s present direction have cause to be concerned about increasing division and discord around the world.

This is why the renowned pianist, composer, and philanthropist Omar Harfouch is on a mission to harmonize the power of music with the spirit of philanthropy. Harfouch hopes to unite people through music, a universal and potentially uniting language.

Harfouch’s “Concerto for Peace”, a heartfelt plea for global unity, will take place at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées on September 18, and again at the United Nations in Geneva two days later. Through music, he challenges us all to choose the road of peace, whose destination is a better future for us all.

Early notes of Resilience: Omar Harfouch’s Beginnings in Lebanon

Harfouch has long believed in music’s metamorphic potential. His journey began in Tripoli, Lebanon, where he witnessed the magic of music to bring solace during tumultuous times. “Music has always been a way to communicate what words cannot,” Harfouch reflects. “It’s a healing bridge between hearts and minds.”

His parents, both activist teachers, instilled in him a deep sense of commitment and philanthropy. During times of war in Lebanon, Harfouch found refuge in mastering the art of the piano, which provided a temporary escape.

His early exposure to the unifying power of music in such a fractured environment profoundly influenced his career. Fascinated by the piano from an early age, he taught himself to play and later perfected his craft after winning a piano competition organized by Gorbachev’s Moscow. He then studied piano with Natalia Vladimiravna Protsenko and composition in Dnipro, Ukraine, at the Glinka Conservatory.

Striking a Chord for Global Harmony

His latest initiative, the Concerto for Peace, gives eloquent expression to his beliefs.

Orchestrated alongside his childhood friend, Houtaf Khoury, “Concerto for Peace” combines classical music’s emotional depth with a powerful message of unity and peace. Following its debut in Paris, the show will be performed in several conflict-affected regions worldwide. Overall, this series aims to foster a sense of global solidarity and mutual understanding.

The diverse 17-minute concerto blends classical masterpieces with original compositions by Harfouch. Elevating its strength, the Béziers Méditerranée Symphony Orchestra will accompany the musical galore, and Mathieu Bonnin will conduct it. Each piece is carefully selected to convey a message of hope and reconciliation.

“Every note is a step toward peace,” Harfouch explains. “I want the audience to feel the possibility of a better world through the music.”

Offering more than soul-stirring notes of hope, Harfouch will direct a significant portion of the concert proceeds toward humanitarian efforts in conflict zones. This dual focus on art and charity has garnered widespread support from the music community and global philanthropists.

Symphony of Solutions: A Hope for Harmony

As the “Concerto for Peace” gains momentum, Harfouch’s vision continues to inspire people into action.

Harfouch plans to expand the reach of the “Concerto for Peace” to more countries and conflict zones. “This is just the beginning,” he asserts. “I believe that with every concert, we are planting seeds of peace that will grow and flourish in people’s hearts worldwide.”

The upcoming performance at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées is poised to be a landmark event, showcasing the heartwarming impact of Harfouch’s work.

Omar Harfouch’s “Concerto for Peace” epitomises music’s enduring power to inspire change and foster understanding. Through his commitment to this cause, Harfouch is on the road of peace leading to a more compassionate global community.

“In these challenging times, we need that more than ever. I hope the ‘Concerto for Peace’ will touch hearts and inspire minds, creating a ripple effect that leads to lasting change,” Omar Harfouch concludes.

As the world awaits the performances on September 18 and 20, there is a palpable sense of anticipation in the air. “Concerto for Peace” promises to be an unforgettable event, a celebration of the unbreakable human spirit, and a dulcet reminder that not all heroes wear capes. Some of them wear formal suits and play the piano. And they know exactly which road they are on.
