43-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck in Sedan vs Pickup-Truck Crash near Mission Gate Road

LOMPOC, CA (February 15, 2024)Nils Gustavson died Sunday afternoon and Dillon Sederland was hurt in a 2-car crash on State Route 246.

Around 3:30 p.m., law enforcement officers were dispatched to the location just west of Mission Gate Boulevard on State Route 246. Under investigation are the circumstances leading to Gustavson’s operation of a 1997 Saab 4-door sedan, during which he crossed the double yellow lines. This action resulted in a head-on collision with an eastbound 2023 Chevrolet pickup-truck.

The impact caused the Chevy to spin in a counter-clockwise direction, causing significant damage to both vehicles. First responders pronounced Gustavson, the 43-year-old sedan driver from Lompoc, deceased at the scene. Paramedics transported 28-year-old Sederland, the pickup-truck driver, to Lompoc Medical Center with major injuries.

In response to the incident, the California Highway Patrol shut down the relevant section of State Route 246 for a more in-depth investigation. Further details will be provided once they become available.
