Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Interstate 5

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 14, 2024) – One man died early Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run pedestrian collision on southbound State Route 163. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m., just north of Interstate 5. Per reports, a man walking in the southbound lanes was struck by the driver of an unidentified vehicle. The driver  then fled the scene before police arrived. Upon arrival, officers found the pedestrian lying in the center median. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been disclosed by police. A pending toxicology report will determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. Officials are asking those who witnessed the fatal State Route 163 hit-and-run to contact the CHP San Diego Area office at 858-293-6000.
