Jump Gym is a children’s gymnastics academy built around careful instruction and community connection. The program aims to teach movement fundamentals while preserving the joy of play, guiding young learners from toddling steps to more advanced skills with an emphasis on safety, technique, and personal growth. “Gymnastics teaches a language of movement that can develop into strength, coordination, and flexibility that can stay with you for a lifetime,” says Svetlana Ichkova, head coach and owner. “We take the responsibility of early training seriously because we know that how we introduce fundamentals can shape a child’s relationship with gymnastics.”

Classes at Jump Gym begin with parent-and-child sessions for children aged 18 to 36 months and progress through age-graded group lessons up to age 15, with pathways into competitive training for motivated athletes. Early independent classes use progressions such as Twinkle (ages 3 to 4), Sparkle (ages 5 to 6), Stellar (ages 7 to 8), and Super (ages 8 and up) to structure learning across floor, beam, bars, vault, and trampoline.

Jump Gym’s coaching philosophy is rooted in Ichkova’s elite athletic and academic background. As an Olympian diver, she brings the rigor and discipline of world-class competition into a child-centered environment. Her international coaching experience revealed how small technical inconsistencies, if left unchecked, may become ingrained habits. That insight inspired Jump Gym’s focus on correct biomechanics, careful repetition, and building strong fundamentals from the very first lesson.

Family influence is visible throughout the program’s design. Rauza Rafikova, Gold Medalist Olympian, coach, and former Head Coach of the Argentinian National Team, contributes to the gym’s developmental outlook and oversees programming across Jump Gym’s locations at Oak Park and Woodland Hills, California. That involvement of her experience in gymnastics helps shape a culture where patient mentorship and precise skill-building are emphasized.

Drawing on the deep coaching experience of Ichkova and Rafikova, Jump Gym’s approach is structured to blend technical care with developmental sensitivity. Most sessions operate in small groups to balance social learning with focused instruction, with class sizes intentionally limited, allowing coaches to provide hands-on guidance during each rotation.

Private lessons complement group work for athletes who are refining specific skills and for students who benefit from individualized pacing. These sessions are used selectively for competitive preparation or for children who require a quieter environment to thrive. That balance is meant to preserve the dynamics of group learning while keeping attention personal.

Operational choices also reflect thoughtful placement and capacity planning. The original Woodland Hills site remains the more intimate location where the program began, while a larger Oak Park facility accommodates expanded team practices and additional equipment. Serving numerous children across both locations each week, the two-site approach aims to offer practical options for families while managing class flow and equipment availability.

Additionally, customer experience is structured to foster clear communication and a welcoming atmosphere. Front desk staff coordinate information between parents and coaches, and the administrative system is designed to share schedules, progress notes, and logistical changes seamlessly. Coaches are encouraged to build rapport from the first session to help children leave feeling comfortable and eager to return. “Teaching a child with curiosity and care can create trust that lets learning happen naturally,” Ichkova says. “That intention is woven into the early-class experience where playful warmups and obstacle courses are used to make gymnastics feel approachable.”

Since its establishment, Jump Gym has navigated periods of growth and operational refinement, including rebuilding staff and systems. Those adjustments prompted renewed focus on coaching standards and on maintaining a nurturing environment as enrollment expanded. Jump Gym intends to continue refining its dual-location model, keeping group classes inclusive while supporting pathways for athletes who pursue more intensive training and leadership opportunities. Ichkova believes the sky is the limit at Jump Gym; they encourage children to achieve their professional athletic goals, including a high level of gymnastics or achieving a scholarship at a University.

“We envision Jump Gym as a community anchor where families find belonging and opportunities to develop leadership through sport,” Ichkova remarks. Rooted in family experience and informed by international athletic backgrounds, Jump Gym seeks to support children as they develop foundational skills, personal confidence, and a lasting enjoyment of movement.
