31-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Fiery Solo-Car Accident near Chisum Travel Center

ROPESVILLE, TX (November 30, 2023) – A collision on Highway 62 claimed the lives of Jonathan Michael Weldy and another individual. The incident unfolded shortly after 10:30 p.m. near the Chisum Travel Center, where police responded to the scene.

According to reports, Weldy was behind the wheel of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, heading north in the southbound lanes of the freeway. The Chevy swerved off the road and onto a curb on the west side, and ultimately came to a stop, igniting in flames directly across from the Chisum Travel Center.

Paramedics arrived, declaring Weldy and the other occupant deceased at the scene. Currently, an active investigation is underway to gather more information, and further details will be provided once available.
