17-Year-Old Boy Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near Mile Post 93

SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (October 17, 2023) – Monday afternoon, a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on State Route 20, resulting in the death of James Janda.

The incident prompted a swift response from law enforcement, with police arriving at the accident scene at approximately 3:15 p.m.

The collision took place on the westbound lanes of the freeway, near Mile Post 93, on the 9th of October. According to initial reports, James Janda, a 17-year-old, was behind the wheel of a 1993 Honda Accord, traveling eastward. He unexpectedly veered across the center line, entering the eastbound lanes.

There, the Honda collided with a westbound 2022 GMC Yukon, which was carrying three occupants.

Emergency personnel arrived and transported a 37-year-old female passenger from the Yukon to United General Hospital for medical care. Unfortunately, James Janda succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by the medical team.

In their preliminary investigation, authorities ruled out alcohol or drug involvement as contributing factors to the accident. Currently, a comprehensive investigation is underway to gather additional information related to the incident.
