Our weekly list of special event films:

Friday, Nov. 23

Woody Allen's films are manifestations of neurosis at its best, and with a career spanning over half a century, those black-rimmed glasses will forever define eccentric. Enjoy two of the director's latest films, To Rome With Love and Midnight in Paris, tonight at the New Beverly Cinema.

Sometimes it's easy to forget what Thanksgiving is all about. For a refresher, the American Cinematheque will take you from the Egyptian Theatre back to 1607 Jamestown with The New World, Terrence Malick's largely misunderstood telling of the legendary story of Captain John Smith, Pocahontas and John Rolfe.

Sunday, Nov. 25

Not quite ready for the upcoming Wizard of Oz 3-D prequel? Although one shouldn't be too quick to judge, cherish your childhood memory as you know it (while you can) and see the original tonight at the Aero Theatre.

The New Beverly Cinema is honoring beloved, recently deceased director Tony Scott by screening The Hunger and True Romance. His close friend director Joe Carnahan will attend for a tribute.

Thursday, Nov. 29

Alfred Hitchcock's only original (non-adapted) screenplay was for The Ring, a silent film about a love triangle among an up-and-coming boxer, his girlfriend and an Australian boxing champion. The 1927 feature has been restored by the British Film Institute Archive and is playing tonight at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theatre.
