This story is not one of extraordinary events but rather an affirmation of the power of passion, commitment, dedication, and hard work.
The Flash is a famous sci-fi TV series that started back in 2014. The Warner Bros. production is an adaptation of the DC Comics character of the same name that Duolin Ge has been a huge fan of. He started watching the TV series and four years later, he was welcomed on the Encore VFX which working on The Flash as a senior VFX compositor. He describes the mega project as a significant milestone in his professional journey, and he is eager to contribute to more projects of similar scale in the future. The captivating visuals of the show, combined with its compelling storytelling, are the key components in making it a blockbuster hit as the show moves towards a decade of successful runs. Duolin feels elated to be part of such a remarkable bunch of tech experts who have delivered something of unparalleled quality.
Big-scale projects come with a wide scope of learning and countless opportunities, which allow professionals to make informed choices about their work. For Duolin, his working experience with the entire team of The Flash has immensely improved his overall skill quotient, allowing for unprecedented growth in his already brimming talent as he spends most of the time identifying, discovering, and solving problems. He has developed a keen eye for detail and can easily spot even the tiniest imperfections or slimmest divergences in the VFX-generated shot.
Promotion means a step up in the game, which means higher risks, better performance, and the chance to tackle new and exciting complications. When Duolin became a part of the TV series, nailing the speed force shot became a crucial moment. He faced a significant challenge in enhancing its effects, but after some time, he eventually discovered the correct approach. ‘The Flash is a long-running TV show, airing since 2014, and the most thrilling moments for the audience are when The Flash uses his Speed Force. Continuously evolving the visual representation of the speed force became an enduring challenge,’ he said. It was all possible under Leo Awards and VES Awards winner-the supervision of renowned VFX art director Armen V. Kevorkian, whose professionalism allowed Duolin to learn so much in such little time. The Flash” received an Emmy award nomination in 2015 as a Primetime Emmy nominee for outstanding special visual effects for the episode titled “Grodd Lives.”
To make his mark in the visual effects field, Duolin also is the member of Visual Effects Society since 2019. Also, he become a national active member at Television Academy since first of 2024. He holds a degree in fine arts from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. Speaking on a lighter note, the tech enthusiast shared that the only drawback of joining the crew was that he’d have spoilers before the episodes went on air. He said, ‘I mean, I would trade anything for the opportunity that I have been so fortunate to land, so yes, it is a minor trade, let it be!’
The road to becoming a senior VFX compositor has not been a walk in the park for this highly talented individual. He started as a fresher just like anyone else and was open to all kinds of work, irrespective of the scale and remuneration. Simultaneously, he was committed to seeking out ample and pertinent opportunities and conducting thorough research to establish valuable connections where he could effectively demonstrate his abilities and ensure they were recognized. Years of struggle took him to where he always wanted to be. Duolin has also been an VFX compositing Supervisor on projects the latest of which is The Wandering Earth 2.
