60-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Two-Car Crash near Paradise Cove

MALIBU, CA (May 21, 2024)Derek Schimming died Tuesday afternoon, in a car crash on PCH near Paradise Cove and Winding Way.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m., on May 14th.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that Schimming was driving a gray 2008 Honda Civic southbound in an unsafe manner. The vehicle unexpectedly swerved across the northbound lanes and crashed into a white van.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later declared 60-year-old Schimming dead at the scene.

Following preliminary duties, authorities suspect that Schimming might have experienced a medical emergency at the time of the crash.

Officers also say the van’s driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
