In 1998, Demarbre established Odessa Filmworks, Inc. with the release of his martial arts spoof entitled “Harry Knuckles” (his first short film shot on 16mm). For Demarbre, this wasn’t just an achievement; it was the realization of a lifelong dream. A graduate of Carleton University’s film studies program, this indie filmmaker from Ottawa, Canada made quite an entrance into the cinematic world. In 1999, Demarbre’s 2nd short 16mm film was a sequel to his first entitled “Harry Knuckles and the Treasure of the Aztec Mummy.” The film won the “Spirit Award” at the 2000 Slamdance Film Festival and gained immense popularity, contributing to the rise of Demarbre as a cult filmmaker and was the catalyst that lead him to step into the world of feature filmmaking.

The Cult Phenomenon: Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (2001) and Demarbre’s next six feature films.

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter was Lee Gordon Demarbre’s feature film debut, and marked a foray into the spotlight, revolutionizing the cult cinema genre. The dream-inspired screenplay by Ian Driscoll, quickly rose to fame, winning seven international film festival awards and drawing big distributors for a international DVD and Blu-ray release.

This daring film, released in 2001, garnered a devout following with its unconventional portrayal of the Second Coming battling lesbian vampires in Canada’s capital. With screenings at more than 45 international film festivals, Demarbre expanded his fan base and solidified his cult status.

Rather than resting on his laurels, Demarbre showcased relentless creativity in 2004 with “Harry Knuckles and the Pearl Necklace.” This second feature film marked the beginning of a cinematic journey that lead Demarbre making his next two feature films in Mexico, a captivating documentary entitled, “Vampiro: Angel, Devil, Hero,” and a gripping narrative feature entitled, “The Dead Sleep Easy.” Returning to Canada, Demarbre’s next three feature films would be co-produced by Zed Filmworks. 2009 saw the release of “Smash Cut”, considered a dream-project for Demarbre that featured a star-studded cast including David Hess (from the original ‘Last House on the Left’), adult film super-star Sasha Grey, Michael Berryman (from the original “The Hills Have Eyes”), Ray ‘the Wizard of Gore’ Sager, and legendary filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis. Following “Smash Cut” came two more feature films released that same year (both directed by Demarbre), “Summer’s Moon” (starring ‘Twilight’ star Ashley Greene) and “Stripped Naked”.

This year, the journey persists with pride as Demarbre unveils his 8th feature film entitled, “Enter the Drag Dragon.” Each chapter reaffirms Demarbre’s dedication to pushing boundaries and crafting narratives that stand the test of time.
