When Ashley Holt, founder and CEO of Ashley Holt Media Group and founder of She Means Business Magazine, joined The Rhonda Swan Show on Wall Street, hosted by global branding leader Rhonda Swan and produced by the award-winning Unstoppable Branding Agency, she brought a message that stops women in their tracks. The world has been telling women they have a confidence problem. Holt says that diagnosis is wrong, and that getting it wrong is costing women more than they realize.

A national media founder, Self-Worth Strategist and Fortune 500 single mom turned CEO, Holt is building an ecosystem designed to shift how women see themselves, not from the outside in, but from the inside out.

She Means Business began at rock bottom, not at the peak

She Means Business did not launch from a place of success. It launched from a place of survival. Holt was a single mother of two daughters with $50 in her bank account, no plan and a growing sense of isolation. What pulled her through was not a program or a product — it was the act of telling women’s stories and, through that, reconnecting to her own truth.

As she began sharing those stories, a pattern emerged. Media coverage focused on women accounts for roughly 25% of total stories told. That gap became her mission. She Means Business was built to put women’s resilience, success and gifts into the spotlight — and to become the lifeline for other women that Holt herself had needed.

The difference between confidence and self-worth

Holt draws a clear and deliberate line between confidence and self-worth — and she argues that confusing the two is holding women back.

Confidence, she explains, is external. It is visible, performative and shaped by how the world responds to a person. Self-worth operates at a deeper level. It determines what a person believes they deserve, what they are willing to tolerate and whether they are willing to ask for more. Confidence can be performed. Self-worth has to be built.

Her framework for that building process is called BOSS UP — an acronym that stands for Believe, Observe, Script and Shift. The process begins with identifying limiting beliefs, moves through observing their impact and ends with scripting and shifting a new internal narrative. It is the blueprint Holt created after living through her own transformation, designed to help other women do the same.

Challenging a $500 billion industry

Holt does not shy away from the scale of what she is taking on. The confidence industry — valued at hundreds of billions of dollars — has, in her view, turned self-doubt into a revenue stream. It sells solutions to symptoms without addressing the root cause. Each time a woman questions her value, the industry profits. The answers it offers are external. The problem, Holt argues, is internal.

Selected as one of only 15 speakers for the WILDX American Idol for Speakers Competition, presented in partnership with USA Today and filmed live at the iconic Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, Holt delivered her signature talk: “We Don’t Have a Confidence Problem — We Have a Self-Worth Crisis.” The talk reframes self-worth not as a personal wellness topic but as a national issue with measurable consequences for women across all socioeconomic levels.

The evidence she points to is straightforward. Research has shown that men will apply for a position with roughly 60% of the listed qualifications, while women with 100% of the qualifications frequently do not apply at all. That gap, Holt says, is not a confidence gap. It is a self-worth gap.

What the She Means Business ecosystem offers

She Means Business has grown beyond a single publication into a full ecosystem for women at every stage of their self-worth journey. The platform includes the flagship magazine, which features women’s stories of resilience and achievement; the Build Your Brand Like a Boss book, focused on building a personal brand from the inside out; and The She Means Business Show, available now on Apple Podcasts. A children’s book collection is also in development, extending the mission to the next generation by teaching young people to build a strong sense of self-worth early.

When self-worth is the foundation, Holt says, the changes are practical and measurable. Decision-making becomes stronger. Boundaries become clearer. And the impact a woman creates — in her business, her family and her community — expands accordingly.

Her call to action for every woman is to take a vow: to value her truth, own her words and walk unapologetically in her power. In Holt’s view, a woman’s presence, voice and impact are not optional. They are a necessity — for her own rise and for the women watching who need proof that it is possible.
