Three Injured in School Bus Collision on U.S. 285

CHAVES COUNTY, NM (August 21, 2023) – Tuesday morning, three victims sustained injuries in a bus crash on Darby Road. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m., at the intersection of Darby Road and U.S. 285 on August 15th. Per reports, the driver of a school bus turned onto the freeway directly into the path of a northbound 2015 Ford pickup-truck. Medics arrived and transported the 56-year-old female driver of the Ford and her 4-year-old passenger to a hospital with minor injuries. In addition, crews took a child that was on the bus to a hospital for treatment. Furthermore, the authorities stated that all other occupants of the bus did not suffer any major injuries. At this time, no citations or arrests have been made, and the New Mexico State Police took over for further investigation.
