1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized after Driver Runs Red Light on Southern Avenue

TEMPE, AZ (May 9, 2024) – One person was killed early Saturday morning, and another was hurt in a red-light collision on 48th Street and Souther Avenue.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m., on April 13th.

The driver of an eastbound car ran a red light on Southern Avenue, causing a collision with a southbound vehicle on 48th Street. Both drivers were rushed to a nearby hospital by paramedics.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, one driver passed away. Preliminary investigations suggest that the eastbound driver might have been impaired, and excessive speed is believed to have played a role in the accident.
