Solya Brings ‘Queen of Texas’ to Pacific Electric

West Texas singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Solya brought her Queen of Texas headline tour to Pacific Electric last Thursday, Sept. 17, delivering a 16-song set that drew from her debut album as well as the earlier releases that helped build her devoted following. 

The Los Angeles date was originally booked at Lodge Room in Highland Park, then moved to the new 750-capacity warehouse theater at the Chinatown / Mission Junction edge of downtown. Tele Novella opened. The night sat in the middle of the 25-city North American leg of the Queen of Texas tour, which had already sold out Nashville, Atlanta, Raleigh, Chicago, Grand Rapids, San Francisco, and Portland, after a sold-out Texas run and a nine-city European stretch that included Latitude and two packed London rooms.

The 16-song set moved between Solya’s early bedroom recordings and the material from Queen of Texas. “Heaven,” “Roadkill,” “Butterfly,” “Tear Me Apart,” and “We Say Goodbye” date to the 2023–24 bedroom period that first found her an audience. “Tell Me It’s Over,” “19,” “Silver Swan,” “Born Wicked,” “Movie Star,” “Aim to Kill,” “Queen of Texas,” and “Is This Love??” are the Queen of Texas era — written after she brought in producer Danny Reisch to make a debut album before she had any songs, then tracked in Lockhart on analog gear with Reisch and Jason Chronis (who also plays in Tele Novella). The title track began as a demo she cut on a broken Android. She released that demo the same week this tour leg started.

Solya Ava Lowe is 20, born in Lubbock and raised in Abilene, a multi-instrumentalist who started piano at six and guitar and synth at fourteen. She self-released Fever Dream at 16 and Jewel Box in 2024, signed to VERSION III after turning down majors that wanted outside writers, and has stayed in Texas on purpose. The debut LP is about relationships, heartbreak, identity, growing up queer in a conservative Texas environment and claiming the “Queen of Texas” title.

Next stops were a sold-out Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco, then on to the Pacific Northwest, Denver, Oklahoma City, and Austin City Limits on October 4.
