“Tranimal does not have a set look,” says photographer Austin Young, who enlists help from gay nightlife icons Squeaky Blonde and Fade-Dra Phey to transform people from all walks of life into “tranimals” — weird and wonderful, drag-meets-monster–minded living art. “It’s how we feel in the moment. It's always a risk. We are open to the cosmic possibilities, to unknown chaos and beauty. What makes the project is a desire to create. We are artists and we live to make art. Tranimal is chaotic freedom of expression. Tranimal is an adjective that describes an energy of the people — who are there and the way we come together.”

Read about Young and his collaborators' recent Tranimal Workshop, held at the recurring late-night arts event Sleepless: The Music Center After-Hours — Free Radicals, here. And enjoy these exclusive shots of tranimals and more from Young's upcoming photo book, to be published by Tweeterhead soon.
