The LA Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils, 6 to 1, in Game 6 of the NHL Finals to win the Stanley Cup. It is the first NHL title in the franchise's 45-year history.
Earlier this year the Kings became the first team ever to start each one of its playoff series with a 3-0 lead. The team faltered after starting the final set of matches strong, losing both Game 4 and Game 5 to New Jersey before coming back to clinch the finals.
The Kings scored three times in the first fifteen minutes of play (goals care of Dustin Brown, Trevor Lewis and Jeff Carter, respectively) and once more in the second period (Jeff Carter, again); all four goals went unanswered by the Devils. With a little more than a minute left in the second period, a rebound from Devils center Adam Henrique finally put New Jersey on the board.
Trevor Lewis scored with three minutes and thirty seconds left in the third period. Lewis' goal was followed almost immediately by an another unassisted shot from Matt Greene, bringing the final tally to 6-1.
We'll update with details on the King's victory parade route as they become available.
