At some point in time, each and every one of us have likely asked ourselves, “why am I here on earth?” or “what is my purpose?” But these big, existential questions can feel impossible to answer.

Oftentimes, we’ll quickly jump to things like our jobs, responsibilities, roles or relationships, but Vancouver, BC born healer and life coach Raminder Hayre, encourages us to consider our purpose as being much more than that.

Named by Women in Business magazine as one of the Top 10 Inspiring Women Driving Industry Impact, Hayre is committed to helping people better understand the human experience so they can break free from patterns and beliefs that do not serve them and ultimately uncover their life’s true purpose.

“We’ve been programmed to look at the external world as our purpose or to look at what we do as our purpose, but we have to be careful of identifying with that because that’s what keeps us stuck,” she begins.

This is something that Hayre understands first hand. With a passion for law, she passed the bar exam in 2018, and shortly after worked in “big law” before opening up her own practice. Although Hayre enjoyed practicing law and got to do “cool” things” like litigate arson, theft, staged-accidents and fraudulent insurance claims, she knew deep inside that she was meant for more.

Hayre underwent a deep spiritual awakening and eventually decided to follow her heart, ultimately switching paths to pursue being a spiritual healer full-time.

She explains that our titles, like being a professional or being a parent, are definitely parts of our purpose, but not the entirety of it. Instead, she emphasizes that truly understanding your life’s intention involves turning away from external sources and focusing inward.

Hayre encourages you to think about who you are when you are your happiest and doing the things that you love most. “What makes you feel at peace and connected with yourself?” she says. The answer you come up with can point you in the right direction of better understanding your truest self.

Hayre, whose middle name is Kaur, meaning lioness in Punjabi, explains “When we act within that certain aura or energy in life, we’re able to fulfill more parts of our purpose because we’re continuing to look for facets of life that bring that to us.”

One of the ways that Hayre likes to think of purpose is as “what helps us avoid burnout.” In other words, your purpose isn’t something that drains you or causes you stress. It’s what fuels you, gives you energy, and motivates you.

“Our purpose will help us avoid burnout because we’re doing something that’s inherently us,” she says. “When we’re gaslit or allow other people’s perceptions or opinions to dictate what we do, then we burn ourselves out because we’re not being authentic.”

Author of, “Debunking The World We Live In: Unpacking The Matrix and The System,” Hayre often explores themes of purpose and identity with her clients, helping them to uncover who they truly are and what their place in the world is.

“For a lot of people, the last couple of years and now the next several, will be about shifting the perspective around purpose, living more authentically, and bringing that within the matrix and system that we’re currently in.”

Doing so is much easier said than done, Hayre sharing that the hardest part for many of her clients is surrendering to the process and fully being in the present moment. “Getting them to surrender, not knowing what the outcome is or surrender to the feeling they’re having,” can help you connect more deeply with your inner self.

Hayre emphasizes that this doesn’t mean that “you completely let go of everything without a set plan.” But, if you follow your intuition and know that you’re guided to do something, letting go of the misery or negative feelings inside you is “going to open up so much space for you to receive something better.”

“Let’s say I’m speaking to someone and tell them, ‘Look, this relationship is just not working for you, look at what it’s doing to your mental health, look at how much energy you’re putting into it,’ the response is usually, ‘well, I don’t know what happens after,’ because we don’t like giving up that sense of control,” she says.

“It takes a while to get used to that, to be like, ‘you know what, I don’t need the certainty or I don’t need the clarity of the next step,’ but that’s what will help you have a true understanding of your energy as well as your connection to the divine.”

Having pivoted away from a successful career in law, Hayre is committed to helping people break free from the constraints of the material world, offering resources designed to support your personal growth. Her book is her latest avenue in doing so, and serves as a guide to understanding and navigating the complexities of our existence.

One of the key motivations of Hayre’s book is examining the societal structures and belief systems that shape our lives and how they really impact our sense of self. “I also talk about intergenerational traumas and patterns, and how those play into our purpose,” she adds.

Hayre emphasizes that in order to truly understand our purpose, we must be willing to explore what genuinely resonates with our inner selves, no matter how difficult it may feel.
