Head Trip brought some of dance music’s biggest names to Indio’s Empire Polo Club Oct. 10–11, with Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, FISHER + Chris Lake, Skrillex, Peggy Gou B2B Four Tet, and Dom Dolla B2B Kettama among the weekend’s heavy hitters. Billed as a one-time event, the festival’s debut hit a snag Saturday when a lightning warning forced an evacuation and cut performances short, canceling Calvin Harris’ scheduled set. System of a Down is celebrating 25 years of “Toxic

System of a Down is celebrating 25 years of “Toxicity“ with a free exhibition in LA. Opening today, Oct. 13 at Beyond the Streets gallery, the weeklong showcase honors the band’s landmark 2001 album with rare memorabilia, archival materials, immersive installations and exclusive merchandise. Debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, “Toxicity“ helped define a generation of heavy music with its explosive sound, unconventional melodies and politically charged songwriting. Featuring enduring tracks like “Chop Suey!,” “Toxicity” and “Aerials,” the album continues to resonate with fans a quarter-century later. The exhibition through this Sunday, Oct. 18, 12 - 8 p.m. Tues. - Fri., and 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sat. and Sun. Admission is free, and no tickets are required. @systemofadown

Stephen King’s “Carrie” returns in a new TV adapta

Stephen King’s “Carrie” returns in a new TV adaptation, now streaming on Prime, from filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who revisits the story of a bullied teenage girl discovering her telekinetic powers amid social media, viral humiliation and a culture of normalized cruelty. Starring Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her mother Margaret, the series offers a contemporary take on King’s 1974 novel. When the homeschooled Carrie attends public school for the first time, her classmates turn a vulnerable moment into a viral spectacle, showing how online harassment can follow someone long after they leave the classroom. The series also explores the TK gene, connecting Carrie to a lineage of powerful women, and every episode Flanagan didn’t direct was helmed by a woman: Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Hiromi Kamata and Kyra Sedgwick. Both Flanagan and Stephen King were skeptical about revisiting the author’s first novel, until King saw the plan. “Actually, I really like this,” Flanagan recalls him saying. “I think this could be very, very relevant.” @flanaganfilm

The Los Angeles Korean Festival returned to Koreat

The Los Angeles Korean Festival returned to Koreatown Oct. 1–4 for its 53rd year, bringing four days of food, music and cultural programming to Seoul International Park. Organizers estimated roughly 300,000 people attended, despite temperatures that pushed past 100 degrees during parts of the festival. This year’s “LA Arirang” theme carried through a lineup that included children’s choirs, traditional dance groups, a Korean hot dog eating contest, and performances and appearances by Jinusean, Tiger JK, Dumbfounded, Greg, Yoon Mi-rae and Big Ocean. The agricultural expo along Irolo Street with producers from eight South Korean provinces selling regional foods was another major draw.
