anees has spent his career chasing one thing: connection. After going from law school to music, the singer, rapper and songwriter began releasing songs in 2020 with "sun and moon" becoming a breakthrough hit in 2022 (reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Philippines Songs chart — a country he plans to tour next year), and a number of albums and releases that have followed. That instinct has carried him this far entirely independently, on the strength of his magnetic personality, soulful music, and the intimate, look-you-in-the-eye-real relationships he builds with his audience. In Los Angeles, he’s built that relationship starting with five free Santa Monica beach shows since 2022, drawing thousands of people. “I think this is probably the city and the community that I've done the best job of investing my personal time with.” anees is returning to LA, bringing his Lucky Duck Tour to the Globe Theatre tomorrow, Aug. 22. Japanese duo YOASOBI wrapped their “Never Ending S

Japanese duo YOASOBI wrapped their “Never Ending Stories” North American headline trek at the Hollywood Bowl on Aug. 16, concluding a six-city run that included stops at Montreal’s OSHEAGA and Lollapalooza in Chicago. The Los Angeles show marked their debut at the landmark amphitheater and capped their largest North American outing so far. The tour also brought several milestones: YOASOBI became the first J-pop artist to perform at OSHEAGA, perform at and sell out Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and perform at the Bowl. More than 70,000 fans attended across six shows, according to organizers. Producer Ayase and vocalist ikura’s music draws from literary narratives adapted into pop tracks, with worldwide hits “Idol,” “Kaibutsu,” “Gunjou,” “Yoru ni Kakeru” and “Yuusha.” Up next: a 10-city Asia dome and stadium tour beginning in October. @yoasobi_staff_ Read the story and see the photos thru @laweekly 📸 @mattyvogel

KCON LA 2026 brought 142,000 attendees to the Los Angeles Convention Center and Crypto.com Arena Aug. 14–16 for three days of K-pop, beauty, food, storytelling and lifestyle. The 36-act lineup included nightly M Countdown performances from NCT 127, ZEROBASEONE and TOMORROW X TOGETHER, with full-hour sets, collaborations and covers, plus ILLIT, Wanna One, MEOVV, ALPHA DRIVE ONE, izna, SANTOS BRAVOS, JO1, &TEAM and many more. Beyond the arena, fans explored Olive Young Festa, K-Food and K-Story zones, the Artist Stage, Toyota Music Den and Sanrio’s Dance Stage. K-Collection also showcased 40 Korean small businesses. P-Lo’s sixth solo studio album “OUT THE BOX” arriv

P-Lo’s sixth solo studio album “OUT THE BOX” arrives today, Aug. 14, after more than a decade of establishing himself as a producer, artist, entrepreneur and advocate for the communities that shaped him. Across 16 tracks, the album gathers the knowledge of production and solo work into one intentional project, with guests including Killer Mike, SadBoi, Kreayshawn, 1Umbrella and SOBxRBE. Throughout his career, P-Lo, who splits his time between LA and the Bay Area, has remained deeply connected to the Bay, carrying its sounds and culture into his work while helping create opportunities for the next generation of artists. “I never really wanted my music to not sound like I’m from the Bay,” he says. “People want to say, ‘Oh, the Bay sound doesn’t translate.’ But I know it does. I know these tempos and these sonics translate across the world.” “I feel like we’re always five to 10 years early on a lot of things,” he adds. “And that’s cool.
